Message From Our Teachers And just like that it is suddenly June. Here we are nearing the end of the preschool year when it truly feels like we have only just begun! Our goal was to play, learn and grow together. Mission accomplished! With the warmest hearts we thank all of our families for a wonderful year of growth and understanding. Together we create what makes Queen’s Park Preschool extra special. Thank you for putting in the extra required to help our preschool be so wonderfully special. Every child counts and every parent matters. We teachers are here for and because of you. Thank you for all the hard work and dedication you have shared with us. We make a good team. It makes sense that with every ending comes new beginnings. We are so very excited for all of our four and five year olds who are moving on to kindergarten, but most definitely we will miss each and everyone of you. Our three year olds of course will be returning and it is exciting to imagine how the summer months will help shape and prepare these little ones for the upcoming year. Everyone grows. We are also excited […]

Message From Our Teachers The month of April brought lots of rain showers and a little sun, but at preschool that did not stop us from having an awesome month. Of course the well-attended Preschool Art Show at the Gallery in Queen’s Park was the highlight! The children all participated in making individual and group art. They were so proud to share their work with their families and friends. At the opening night we enjoyed welcoming alumni siblings, parents, grandparents and other significant people in our preschoolers’ lives. The feeling of community as everyone enjoyed an evening of good weather together, was priceless. Easter meant our forest yard Easter egg hunt, Easter art, and playing with eggs in the water table! The fairytale dress-up days were enjoyed by many children. We enjoyed playing with princesses, dragons, fairies, kings, woodland creatures and more. Acting out roleplays involving these characters were also so exciting! We read many classic stories like George and the Dragon, The Three Bears, and The Paper Bag Princess. We enjoyed many art projects this month including watercolour mixing, easel painting, Easter egg paper decorating, collages, magic wand creating, and chalk pastel drawings inspired by our last art gallery […]

Message From Our Teachers Welcome Spring! We sure hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break! Returning enthusiastic, rejuvenated and well rested! March was a wonderful time spent together filled with worm searches, insect hunts and camping dramatic play, musical instruments and relay obstacle course making! We had a great deal of fun wearing fancy clothes and fairy/butterfly wings, exploring sensory foam, colour mixing, watercolour painting, paper tearing and cutting! With Easter just days ahead we are looking closer at farm animals and farm life as well as bunnies, ducks and chickens. This makes sense as we will also be having an Easter Egg Hunt on Wednesday April 5th and Thursday April 6th. Thank you everyone for coming out to take part in our annual art exhibit. The opening night hosted an excess of 200 people enjoying Rock Paper Scissors and the beautiful guitar music of local musician Enrico Renz. We wish to thank Laura Newman for all her hard work helping us glaze and paint our ceramic art pieces, and thank you also to all the families who donated drinks and treats for our very special event! Our annual art show Rock Paper Scissors is on display until April 9th. […]

Message From Our Teachers February was jam packed with many events and exciting activities. We celebrated Valentine’s day with cards and friendship fruit salad. We acknowledged Pink shirt day and talked about kindness. We had many opportunities to practice kindness in preschool with our interactions with peers and teachers, as well as caring for our classroom guinea pig, Toasty Marshmallow. Student Our practicum student completed her practicum this month. The children enjoyed playing with her and participated fully in the activities she brought to the classroom. Police Visit The 4 year old classes were visited by a local police officer and together we learned more about the important role the police have in our community and we saw the inside of a police car! Art Gallery Visiting our art gallery upstairs every month is a highlight as we learn to appreciate a variety of art media and styles. We are working hard to create art for our own art show in April. Snow This month started and ended with snow and playing in snow is always magical. It transforms our play yard and we have so much fun outside. Some of the highlights in play this month included the ‘Not […]

Message From Our Teachers As we say goodbye to January it is wonderful to reflect on the month gone by and revisit some of the activities that happened. This past month we enjoyed our visit to The Gallery in the Park, taking in Paint The Train – A Travelling Group Exhibit featuring trains depicted from 1886 until present day. As trains are very popular at our preschool, you know that this exhibit was enjoyed by our preschool classes! Tracey (who works at the gallery) is a wonderful guide and art mentor to the children introducing the artwork and art mediums, encouraging us to really pay attention to the work displayed and this month she even taught us a song about trains! The month of January had us celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year as we invited health, wealth, happiness and luck into our lives along with the Year of the Rabbit! Silly hat and silly hair day was a fun way to let our sillies out and imaginations run wild! We wrapped up our month long ice-cream shop dramatic play with a concluding ice-cream party at the end of the month! In addition to all of this, we opened up […]

Message From Our Teachers Happy New Year to all of our families on behalf of your teachers! We sincerely hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and enjoyable winter break. It is hard to believe that we are already ushering in 2023. Where has the time gone? The first four months of preschool have flown by! In January we are excited to have a visitor in our 3’s and 4’s classes! Owl Orphaned Wildlife (OWL) is a non profit society dedicated to the survival of raptors. They rescue, rehabilitate and release. The society also has an interactive educational component and will visit us this month on January 11th and 12th! This month we also look forward to our art gallery visit and spending time in our new sandbox in the forest yard! The children’s curiosity and enjoyment  in dressing up and pretend play as doctors and nurses and veterinarians will continue until the children are no longer showing interest. Soon we will begin creating art for our upcoming spring art exhibit. Thank you all for a wonderful first four months of preschool. 2022 was amazing and we cannot wait to share, grow, play and learn together in the months ahead. […]

Message From Our Teachers November has been a cold and wet month at preschool. We experienced our first snow of the season! The pyjama and hot chocolate days were a highlight for the children. We look forward to repeating that in December! We finished up our pumpkin activities at the start of the month with painting, hammering pegs into the pumpkins, cutting pumpkins open, exploring the insides, and using pumpkins to stamp. For acknowledgement of Remembrance day, we did poppy stamping with red paint and decorated our classroom. You would have seen the black and red art displayed in the class this month. The 4 year olds had the opportunity to measure, pour and mix to make their own playdough. We added jello powder for colour and fragrance. Now we need to remember not to eat it! As we continue to learn social skills in class, the collaboration using the giant blocks and the negotiating that started to happen, was great to see. All the classes are still exploring the many ways to use the blocks. The children have been practising cutting with scissors and they are showing amazing skill and improvement. We will continue more cutting activities in December. […]

Message From Our Teachers October means Fall, weather changes, Thanksgiving and Halloween. In preschool it means leaves, muddy buddies, pumpkins, dress up, and spiders! As all the children were starting to settle in and connect with their peers and teachers, our play got bigger, better and messier this month! Since the rain started, the water barrel outside has given us endless joy. We found some interesting bugs in our yard and we got to observe them up close in our terrarium. We had another visit to the art gallery and we appreciated the local artists. We had our in-house pumpkin patch and finding pumpkins in our yard was so exciting. We dressed up for Halloween and had a small party to celebrate. We got to practice our earthquake-drill in all the classes on BC Shake Out day. Individual and class photos were taken this month as well. Toasty Marshmallow, our classroom guinea pig, has been a huge favourite. All the children love feeding her veggies! Please let us know if you would like to host Toasty for a week or so during winter break. Highlights this month included musical instruments, painting at the easel, liquid glue collages, playdough, dinosaurs, dress-up, […]

A message from our teachers: The first month of preschool has flown by! September was all about getting to know one another, settling in, connecting and reconnecting. It was a month of firsts for many of us! We visited our art gallery (The Gallery in the Park) for the first time this year. The artwork was a collective of collage art and mixed media art. A pop-up exhibit curated by Juno Avila-Clark. We practiced our first safety fire drills together in September too! Happy Birthday to all of those born in September. We had the opportunity to celebrate four birthdays during the first month of preschool! Many of you may have heard by now, Ms. Naho gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby boy on September 22nd. As the month wrapped up we enjoyed so many activities including dinosaurs, blocks, insects, playdough, construction vehicles, super hero dress up, baby bathing, blocks of all sorts, bubbles, bug hunting, painting and collage art. As we move into the month of October it looks like it will be a wonderful month of continued exploration of insects and spiders! Thank you everyone for such a wonderful beginning to our preschool year! Though September […]
