Message From Our Teachers During the month of Februrary Queen’s Park Preschool was filled with extra love as we celebrated Valentines Day, friendship, family and kindness together. Highlights of the month included heart shapes, the colour red and searching for treasure, heart treasure that is. Together we have been working on our art show art projects for our upcoming art exhibit called Lines and Dots. The art show will feature wire sculpture, abstract paintings and self portraits! Getting up close and personal with our guineau pig Windy offered some of us a way to practice gentleness and loving care. Bringing out our big blue mat to jump, bounce, roll and dance was so much fun! We love our big blue mat as it offers us a chance to use our large muscles and really use our leg strength and core. This month we baked together making carrot cake and banana muffins. We also helped make jello together. Delicious fun! We hope you had an amazing month of February! We know we sure did! Important Dates The General Meeting originally scheduled for March 2nd has been postponed to April 6th. Spring break is from Monday March 15th to Friday March […]

Message From Our Teachers There have been many highlights this past month. One of the big ones has been interacting and observing Windy, the class guinea pig. Pet care builds upon the natural desire to share gentleness, compassion, tenderness and a sense of responsibility for another living creature. Our QPP students are very lucky to have Windy in our midst. This little animal adds a sense of wonder and added learning opportunities as well as a sense of calm in our often busy room. A few activities we shared in the class included wheels and gears in our 3’s and gears and pulley systems in our fours. In the four year old classes we began drawing self portraits with ink on cardstock as an extension to the interesting mirror fascination that evolved from setting out mirrors and feelings cards. The opportunity to name and express feelings and emotions is so vital. Making silly faces and looking closely at personal features is a wonderful self awareness and self empowering activity. Clay was introduced as a new and exciting medium to create with. Music making has been popular as well as dress up and dramatic play. It was a wonderful January! Happy […]

Message from our teachers December This month, we excitedly opened our loft area! Children were very excited to explore the space and enjoyed using flashlights there. It was a great extended activity using flashlights in the loft space from the celebration of “Diwali” last month. We also enjoyed shadow puppets on the projector and children enjoyed mixing different shapes of shadows to create many great stories with their wonderful imaginations. We couldn’t avoid celebrating this festive season! We were all busy making surprise gifts for our families and it was very sweet to see the children working very hard. Teachers also put out our Christmas Tree in the classroom and children had a great time making cute star ornaments with glitters and sparkly glue. They were happily and joyfully putting the handmade star ornaments up on our Chiristmas tree. We also made many holiday cards and sent them to local seniors and they were dropped off at the New Westminster Library. On the last day of preschool, we had a lot of fun at our Holiday Party! We did special activities and we had a dance party at the end of the class! We had a special circle time and […]

Message from our teachers November went by so quickly! We had so many special days to acknowledge and celebrate together. It was such a pleasure to share Remembrance Day and Diwali at preschool. We made poppy pins with big red circles and small green circle stickers and spent time looking at the photos of our peace makers who maintain world safety. During the Diwali celebration, we all enjoyed the coloured rice and paper collage rangoli art, decorating diyas, clay oil lamp dish and paper lanterns, and floating paper flower activities and special Diwali colouring. We had our snack with diya candles in the centre of the table. The children loved it and it definitely made us feel so special and magical during snack time. We were very happy to celebrate and share Diwali together In 3’s class, we’ve been enjoying musical instruments, Duplo, turtles in the sand table. We also enjoyed pumpkin stamping and forest animals with autumn leaves. We heard some children are talking about the scenery outside and crunchy leaves and it was fun to bring some leaves inside the preschool to take a closer look with magnifying glass and play with the woodland animal figures. Some children were […]

Message from our Teachers September and October 20203’s and 4’s Programs Suddenly September arrived and preschool life began again. The late summer sunshine created a warm emerald green cast in our lovely outdoor space (especially under our fig tree!) We are so lucky to have such a large play yard don’t you agree? Tentative new beginnings and comfortable returnings happened almost seamlessly. Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back! How we missed one another! Hello Jump-a-roo, hello wooden blocks, hello books! Gradual entry was a success by all accounts. Thank you QPP families. Thank you and welcome to Queens’s Park Preschool. Bubbles, crayons and painting outdoors at the art easel, a collective love of trucks, sand, and dinosaurs ushered us through the tentative start of the school year in comforting familiarity. Finally a chance to test our bravery, the opportunity to reach out and step into the unknown, our rock wall becoming a metaphor for limit testing. Yes our rock wall has been opened up at last! In our classroom we have explored hand print painting, group collage, self portrait drawing and rainbow dabbing art! We have had a few dance parties, and we have created indoor and outdoor obstacle courses […]

The last few have proven to be so much fun and a great way to get to know some of the families in your child’s class. Hope to see many of you in the coming weeks. NinaOn behalf of the Executive Message from our Teachers The month of January has simply flown by. Everyone returned from winter break refreshed and relaxed. The snowfall created a wonderful play opportunity outside in our yard where we had snow ball fights and made snow angels. It was also a great deal of fun to get out on the hill. Some of us had a chance to observe what happens to snow when it comes inside. The Snowy Day written by Ezra Jack Keats is the perfect classic children’s story to read during Winter. Other books […]
