Message from our Executive Board

Hello families! Wow – the school year so far has flown by. While many things have changed for this year, it’s been great to see so many new and returning families to the preschool. Thank you for being flexible as we navigate what this year looks like for the preschool!
Some items to note, our AGM is coming up on November 3 at 7pm! Please make sure to have at least 1 family member call in as our AGM and general meetings are mandatory to attend, we have a great speaker lined up and important information to present and approve.
Additionally, we still have some spaces in the 3’s and 4’s – please tell your friends and family about our great little school! We look forward to getting to know you all throughout the school year!

In the classroom

According to our teachers, both the 3’s and 4’s classes have settled in wonderfully. Some of the interests that the children explored in the last month were pumpkins, leaves, dinosaurs, vehicles, spiders and storytelling. They created with a wide variety of materials including Duplo, markers, paint and made faces with loose pieces. There were special days including crazy hair day, pajama day and costume day. Outside of the classroom, the children enjoyed time in the forest yard.

There are many more fun activities to look forward to in November including the opening of the climbing wall and play house structure. As well, the return of the beloved class pet Windy the guinea pig is also sure to be met with excitement!

Five Facts About Guinea Pigs

Source: Wikipedia

  • Despite their common name, they are not native to Guinea nor are they closely biologically related to pigs. They are a species of rodent.
  • Guinea pigs can learn complex paths to food, and can accurately remember a learned path for months.
  • The guinea pig’s natural diet is grass and they benefit from a diet of fresh grass hay such as timothy hay.
  •  A “wheek” is an expression of general excitement, it may occur in response to the presence of its owner or to feeding. If a guinea pig is lost, it may wheek for assistance.
  • Their docile nature, friendly responsiveness to handling and feeding, and the relative ease of caring for them have made guinea pigs a continuing popular choice of household pet.

Remembrance Day

A reminder that the school will be closed on Remembrance Day, Wednesday November 11th.

This year the Remembrance Day ceremony in New Westminster will be going virtual. A wreath from QPPS has been purchased for the ceremony. On behalf of the members, we thank the executive for this arrangement.

Details on the online ceremony can be found here on the City of New Westminster’s website:
