Message From Our Teachers
February was jam packed with many events and exciting activities. We celebrated Valentine’s day with cards and friendship fruit salad. We acknowledged Pink shirt day and talked about kindness. We had many opportunities to practice kindness in preschool with our interactions with peers and teachers, as well as caring for our classroom guinea pig, Toasty Marshmallow.
Student
Our practicum student completed her practicum this month. The children enjoyed playing with her and participated fully in the activities she brought to the classroom.
Police Visit
The 4 year old classes were visited by a local police officer and together we learned more about the important role the police have in our community and we saw the inside of a police car!
Art Gallery
Visiting our art gallery upstairs every month is a highlight as we learn to appreciate a variety of art media and styles. We are working hard to create art for our own art show in April.
Snow
This month started and ended with snow and playing in snow is always magical. It transforms our play yard and we have so much fun outside.
Some of the highlights in play this month included the ‘Not a Box’ exploration; self portrait drawings and watercolour art; cats and dogs play; selling cupcakes and bread in our ‘shop’; playing in the sand box and forest yard; and of course trains and tracks.
In March we will have a two week school holiday and the last day will be the 10th of March. We will start up again on the 27th of March.

Craft Corner: Paper Cup Flowers
March is about getting excited for spring! Let’s get blooming with our kids to create these beautiful spring flowers and use the opportunity to discuss what this season will bring.
Materials: Paper cups, scissors, drinking straw, tape, crayons/markers and stickers.
Instructions:
1. Cut the paper cups with scissors starting from the lip to the base. Note that thinner cuts create more beautiful petals, but less room to decorate. As always please supervise children when using scissors.
2. Decorate your petals with crayons, markers, or stickers. You can add some personality to your flower by drawing a face on the base of the cup.
3. Tape a straw to the back of the decorated flower for the stem.
4. Use another paper cup and turn it over for the flower pot.
5. Using a pen, poke a hole in the bottom of the flower pot cup. Stick the stem of the flower in the hole.
Your flowers have bloomed now and are ready to create smiles all spring long!
Reading Room: Colourful Season
March is a wonderful time to learn about the changes from winter to spring. The white snow melts as warm golden sunlight peeks out, greens become more vibrant, and splashes of colour start appearing. We even notice gold and green for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations or all the colours of the rainbow for the Holi festival. Check out these books to get your children ready for March!
