Books books books!
Parents sometimes ask our teachers for some suggestions of their favourite children’s book authors.
Ms. Donna and Ms. Lyn love Eric Carle, Oliver Jeffers, Denise Fleming, Leo Leoni, Byron Barton, John Burningham, and Kevin Henkes to name a few.
Did you know that the librarians at the New Westminster Public Library are a wealth of knowledge too, and they are more than happy to help you search for that just right picture or chapter book!
In the months ahead the teachers will add to their never ending list of personal favourites.
Our best advice? Be choosy about the books you share with your children. The text, illustrations and the art should please, inspire and delight you! It is time so well spent cuddled up with your little ones.
Nothing compares to your loving arms and sound of your warm attentive voice in your child’s ear. Books and book time is a precious incomparable gift. Enjoy!

Inspiring and Intentional Home Environments
Our March education discussion will lead with a strong focus on connection. How do parents currently use their home environment to empower their children and connect? Paula Milbradt will share the importance of healthy interactions and how those impact healthy development.
Over the last 26 years, Paula has served children, family, community and professionals. Paula moved to Surrey in 2011 to support the Educators who work as preschool teachers with the City of Surrey. She, along with her colleague, implemented a responsive curriculum. Paula was responsible for outdoor play spaces, curriculum planning that strengthens healthy child development. Paula has presented to numerous groups inclusive of CHOM, various CCRR groups, YMCA parent groups and various conferences.

3-Year-Old Class Information
In February we celebrated Lunar New Year, Family Day, Valentine’s Day and Pink Shirt Day!
Over the past month much of our 3s class experiences have been based on touch. Extravagant tactile experiences! Our sensory table has been a wonderland for our fingertips and fine motor skills. From moon sand, pink and red rice, to feathers and everything in between! Scooping, pouring, feeling, measuring and throwing!
The water table has sparkled and twinkled with sequins, coloured water and metallic bowls and scoops, ice, snow, shaving cream as well as funnels and tubes, foam alphabet letters and baby dolls for bathing.
We have been having so much fun in the SNOW outside creating snow castles and collecting ice.
Yoga has been amazing! Some of our other gross motor activities have included fan dancing, scarf dancing and of course our ever popular Jump-a-roo!
Our playdough table became a bakery of sorts with all kinds of baked goods and cookies being made and served.
By special request dinosaurs made a re-appearance in the classroom.
Our art projects continue to be collaborative group works as well as personal exploration of chalk pastels, watercolour and tempra paint.
In March we will explore all things green (St. Patrick’s Day) and do some bulb and seed planting once the snow and frost disappear.
Warmly,
Ms. Donna and Ms. Lyn
