3-Year Old Classroom Info
A gorgeous October has come and gone. It’s true that our 3-year old classes have been thoroughly enjoying the wonderful fall sunshine and singing about the changing weather during group time (What Is The Weather Like, Oh Mr. Sun, and Rain Is Falling Down). To be able to play outside without full muddy buddies and rain gear has been such a treat!
In October we made our way to the art gallery to view spectacular collage art by Seth Macbeth. We also took part in our first fire drill practice and collected pumpkins in our very own pumpkin patch!
Making playdough together from scratch, building a paper maché volcano and erupting it together has been just a few highlights from the month of October. Dinosaurs had a huge presence in our classroom for the longest while. The children’s interest in dinosaurs is enormous! You may have noticed dinosaurs in the library corner, playdough table, sand table, playhouse and block areas. Basically dinosaurs in every shape and size have taken over our play space.
We have been busy making watercolour paintings, leaf stencil art, leaf rubbing art and leaf watercolour paintings too. Who knew leaves could be so utterly inspiring?
November is sure to be another amazing month. We will be continuing our dinosaur explorations, autumn inquires and making some discoveries about light and dark in a variety of ways following the interests of the children among other things…stay tuned!
Don’t forget we have pajama day on Thursday, November 8 and our next art gallery visit is on Thursday, November 22. If all goes well we will be having a nature walk on Thursday, November 29 (subject to change).
Warmly,
Your 3’s teachers!
4-Year Old Classroom Info
Oh the busy busy 4-year olds! So much passion and excitement in our 4-year old classes!
Inspired by our art gallery visit to view Seth Macbeth’s collage art, the children have been creating their own collage art using cardboard as a base and cutting out magazines and colourful paper. Loose part creations heavily laden with tape and glue continue to be a popular opportunity for self-expression.
For a gross motor activity, the children helped the teachers create an obstacle course using carpet squares, balance beam and the bridge.
Dinosaur exploration is at the top of our list right now. Activities include digging up dino bones in the sand box, reading about how dinosaurs became extinct and painting dinosaurs at the easel.
Beading with alphabet beads and round beads on pipe-cleaners and tracing and cutting autumn inspired shapes are just a few ways we are encouraging fine motor skill development.
The 4-year old classes had an opportunity to peel and chop apples in preparation to make apple sauce together and then ate it at snack time! We also made playdough together. So many chefs amongst us!
Important November dates to make note of are:
- Wednesday, November 21s -Art gallery visit
- Wednesday, November 28- Fire drill
Warm regards,
Your 4’s teachers!
