I love this time of year when you can go for a walk in the leaves on a sunny crisp day with a pumpkin spice latte in hand and then come home and watch hockey or football.

Some of you may have already completed your first duty day and I hope you enjoyed it. I was in Josh’s class today and loved seeing how much the kids have grown since June and how quickly their abilities are changing. I was stationed at the climber today and saw some incredibly strong kids monkeying across the bars. Wow, I was impressed! I think the best moment however, was when one girl was cheering on her friend to keeping trying so she could make it across. Most of the times our kids learn from us, but it’s those times that we learn from them that really put a smile on my face. Today I was reminded of how important it is to cheer people on, so if you see someone needing extra encouragement to complete something I encourage you to go ahead and give them support.

If you have any questions, concerns or comments regarding your jobs, duty days, class activities, meetings or other preschool matters please do not hesitate to ask for help. We have a very knowledgeable teaching staff and a great executive that is always willing to go the extra mile so please call upon people if you need anything. You can also reference the website: www.qpps.ca.

I am excited for this year and the opportunity to work with all of you. What possible interest could there be in copying an object which nature provides in unlimited quantities?”

Welcome Fall! The fours classes have had a great start to the year at preschool. We have all been very busy getting to know each other as we mingle and play. We’ve learned some new names and faces, many of our individual likes and dislikes, and best of all- fabulous passions and skills. Some of us even found out things about ourselves we did not know…it’s amazing all you can learn spending a little time at preschool.

Our classroom focus has been apples, a harbinger of the changing season. We have been comparing sizes and colours while talking about how and where apples grow throughout the seasons. We painted with water colours and even cut open a few different apples and stamped them in paint to study the prints they make. We sang an apple tree song and Jessica told the children the story of “The House With the Star in the Middle.” The best part, however, had to be eating them! With the apples everyone brought in, we made juice and apple crumble, but most people couldn’t resist eating them as they were, freshly sliced.

We hadn’t planned a nature walk this first month of school, but something interesting had happened nearby, so we ventured out to investigate. About a month ago, a storm raged through the city and struck down a big tree just around the corner from the preschool. The tree shattered and pieces we left scattered all over the surrounding grass. It might have been lightning (although there are no burn marks on the tree), it could have been the crazy wind, but either way, it was amazing to see how powerful a storm can be and how great it is that we all have somewhere safe to be whenever storms come through.

Moment of the month:

A boy is wearing a fire hat and stretching his arms together out in front of him while making a loud “shhhhhhhhh” sound, as if holding a fire hose.

Teacher Jenny-“Is it working?
