We had so many special days to acknowledge and celebrate together. It was such a pleasure to share Remembrance Day and Diwali at preschool. We made poppy pins with big red circles and small green circle stickers and spent time looking at the photos of our peace makers who maintain world safety. During the Diwali celebration, we all enjoyed the coloured rice and paper collage rangoli art, decorating diyas, clay oil lamp dish and paper lanterns, and floating paper flower activities and special Diwali colouring. We had our snack with diya candles in the centre of the table. The children loved it and it definitely made us feel so special and magical during snack time. We were very happy to celebrate and share Diwali together

In 3’s class, we’ve been enjoying musical instruments, Duplo, turtles in the sand table. We also enjoyed pumpkin stamping and forest animals with autumn leaves. We heard some children are talking about the scenery outside and crunchy leaves and it was fun to bring some leaves inside the preschool to take a closer look with magnifying glass and play with the woodland animal figures. Some children were into dragons after we read “George and the Dragon” and we decided to explore dragons and a castle this month. It was an amazing experience to hear imaginative stories and their magical imaginations have been expanded. We also invited children to the doctor’s kits since we witnessed some children started taking care of the baby dolls. We also enjoyed music and movement activity with scarves.

In 4’s class, we’ve been exploring Face Project with loose pieces, lacing, straw connectors and dinosaur bones. We also introduced some music instruments and children in both classes somehow combined them to the Play House area. The customers used bells to call a server or chef when they wanted to order. The chefs used the bells to let the customers know when their orders were ready. It was so great to see their play was already expanding! Also, we’ve been exploring spiders since last week. We’ve been reading spider books, singing spider songs at circle time and playing with spider making art and spider matching cards during free play time. Spider toys even appeared on the projector and it made a huge spider shadow! It made us all surprised and excited about what we’re going to explore more!

As an extension of Diwali celebration, teachers decided to introduce children “Light and Shadows” with the overhead projector to all the classes. We read a book called “Blackout” as an introduction for “Light and Shadows” and it was a huge hit. Many of the children enjoyed exploring colour blocks, liquid hourglass, transparent toys to project on the white canvas screen and even brought some spider toys to the projector. We ended up enjoying this amazing light and shadow exploration with 3’s and 4’s classes because the children enjoyed it so much! We’ve added different kinds of transparent blocks, animal and little insect figures and shadow puppets.

Our class pet Windy the guinea pig is back to the classroom this month! Many of the children were so excited to see how she hides in her tiny house and how she drinks water and eats food. Thank you for bringing some vegetables and fruits for her and taking care of her! Windy is very happy to get all the sweet and happy attention from the children!

<img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="626"
