Our time together thus far has allowed for getting to know one another, getting familiar with the classroom space, as well as with the flow of the day which we have introduced slowly through the gradual entry process. This is just the start of building a strong foundation of trust, community and a sense of belonging at preschool. These are the pillars of our teaching practice in the three’s program and we will continue to nurture strong and safe relationships throughout the year. It is woven into all that we do!

Of course play (learning through play) was a big part of the settling into September. An overall favorite was the loft and playhouse!!! All the children enjoyed the experience of a structure just their size! We had many requests for dinosaurs and as such, they have made an appearance in the classroom along with some literature on dinosaurs. This is a taste of how our emergent curriculum works and how we implement it throughout the year built on the interests and curiosities of the children. Our aim is always to have fun and to keep that inquisitive nature and love of learning alive!

We have started our loving kindness practice at our morning gathering time, sending some thoughtful wishes to those friends that are absent from school by saying, “May you be happy, may you be healthy and may you be at peace.” We have also introduced a fun breathing exercise called lion’s breath.

For October we are planning to extend the dinosaur play inquiry with creating and erupting our very own volcano! We are also going to be exploring things in conjunction with the natural cycles around us – some things that may inspire us: apples, pumpkins, Autumn, leaves, bats, spiders and dressing up/costumes.

Important Dates:

Thursday Oct. 4 – Individual and Class Photos

Thursday Oct. 18- Art Gallery visit

Thursday Oct. 25 – Pumpkin Patch (in our very own extended play yard)

Tuesday Oct. 30- Dress Up!

Love, Ms. Donna and Ms. Lyn

What’s Happening in the 4s?

After a brief gradual entry period our four year old classes immediately got into the full swing of things! The month of September was largely about getting re-aquainted and of course welcoming some new friends to Queen’s Park Preschool. We are all settling in fairly well and have spent the past few weeks exploring our brighter and lighter class room, learning some new songs and routines and of course meeting the teachers.
