It\u2019s a busy time at QPPS with many thanks deserved to all the volunteers who are making things run so smoothly! \u00a0Thank you to Katie and Sylvia for all their hard work for organizing registration, thank you to Monica and her treasurer assistant for working on the tax receipts and thank you to all of you for completing the annual survey. Lastly, and a huge thank you to Tara and the silent auction team for such a fun and successful night! \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have a lot of fun coming up this month with the Sun Run, a coffee party and more Art Gallery visits. Then in May &#8211; the return of the eggs and chicks (my favourite!). Also, for those of you receiving this Newsletter for the first time as incoming families, welcome! The Newsletter is a great source of information about the happenings in the school so enjoy!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>xo Marti<\/p>\n<h2>A HUGE Thank You<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A heartfelt thank you to all who donated and to all who attended our silent auction this year, making it the memorable and successful evening that it was. We\u2019d also like to extend our gratitude to those who generously and beautifully catered our event: Earnest Ice Cream for the ice cream station, Oyama charcuterie, Benton Brothers Cheeses, Bon Macaron, Beaucoup Bakery, Wishing Treats, Save O<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">n Foods, Superstore, Choices, \u201cEnza\u2019s Kitchen\u201d, Divine Samosas, Small Bites, and to Bulk Barn for the candy station. You all made the food tables as delicious as the deals on the auction tables! Thank you very much. Jesse Miller is a national speaker presenting and consulting to schools, non-profit groups and companies across Canada since 2007. Jesse is in high demand as a speaker on the topics of social media awareness, Internet safety &amp; online content evaluation. \u00a0More information on Jesse Miller can be found on his website at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediatedreality.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">https:\/\/www.mediatedreality.com<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Looking ahead to May, we welcome back Christopher Burt, who will be returning to QPPS with his talk on Promoting Peer Social Competence. We will learn the importance of this key developmental skill, how it is connected to emotional self-regulation and school readiness and how we can support our preschoolers to initiate and maintain friendships. \u00a0Christopher is educated and trained as a Family Counsellor and has been supporting individuals, families, organizations and the community for over 20 years. All the cheques should be made out to the preschool.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/qpps.ca\/newsletter\/april-2018\/light-table\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1889\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1889 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/qpps.ca\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/light-table-e1522427247682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"3198\" height=\"1680\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/qpps.ca\/newsletter\/april-2018\/image1\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1893\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h2>3-Year Old Classroom Information<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the month of March our play house was transformed over and over again as our three year old classes continued to enjoy dramatic play that included grocery store, grocery shopping, bakery and sushi restaurant. Using a cash register, paper bags, realistic play money and shopping carts!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The loft area became a train station complete with a coal toss gross motor activity and ticket booth for buying train tickets. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The balance beam and bridge were brought out and the children had \u00a0opportunities to shuffle, sidestep, step, leap, jump, carefully move and of course test personal limits finding our footing practicing first on a tape line and then gradually moving on to the challenge of the balance beam. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our March art gallery visits exposed us to giclees (print on canvas) and oil paintings by local artist Iris Mes Low. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Giving a nod to St. Patrick&#8217;s Day we wore green and made shamrock art as well as made jello together. \u00a0Our playdough was minty (the smell of green?) and our water table transformed into a pot of gold! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/qpps.ca\/newsletter\/april-2018\/image1\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1893\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1893\" src=\"https:\/\/qpps.ca\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/image1-e1522426982355-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/qpps.ca\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/image1-e1522426982355-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/qpps.ca\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/image1-e1522426982355-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Two adorable bunnies visited our classroom. What a pleasure to meet Chester and Whiskers! We also enjoyed an outdoor easter egg hunt together.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In April, among other invitations we will be exploring insects, Spring, pond life, farm animals and rainbows. We will begin working on our art for the upcoming May art show. Using very hands on and senorial experiences such as spice making, soup making, and pasta cooking during play time, it brought the children of the class together.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Naturally, we read the story of Stone Soup, and families were invited to support the children&#8217;s investigation. The children were asked to choose a vegetable with their families, and bring it to preschool so we could make our own version of Stone Soup. We looked closely at the vegetables and painted pictures of them before peeling and cutting them up.
