Message from our Executive Board Hello families! Wow – the school year so far has flown by. While many things have changed for this year, it’s been great to see so many new and returning families to the preschool. Thank you for being flexible as we navigate what this year looks like for the preschool! Some items to note, our AGM is coming up on November 3 at 7pm! Please make sure to have at least 1 family member call in as our AGM and general meetings are mandatory to attend, we have a great speaker lined up and important information to present and approve.Additionally, we still have some spaces in the 3’s and 4’s – please tell your friends and family about our great little school! We look forward to getting to know you all throughout the school year! JenVice PresidentQueens Park Preschool In the classroom According to our teachers, both the 3’s and 4’s classes have settled in wonderfully. Some of the interests that the children explored in the last month were pumpkins, leaves, dinosaurs, vehicles, spiders and storytelling. They created with a wide variety of materials including Duplo, markers, paint and made faces with loose pieces. There were […]

Message from our Teachers September and October 20203’s and 4’s Programs Suddenly September arrived and preschool life began again. The late summer sunshine created a warm emerald green cast in our lovely outdoor space (especially under our fig tree!) We are so lucky to have such a large play yard don’t you agree? Tentative new beginnings and comfortable returnings happened almost seamlessly. Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back! How we missed one another! Hello Jump-a-roo, hello wooden blocks, hello books! Gradual entry was a success by all accounts. Thank you QPP families. Thank you and welcome to Queens’s Park Preschool. Bubbles, crayons and painting outdoors at the art easel, a collective love of trucks, sand, and dinosaurs ushered us through the tentative start of the school year in comforting familiarity. Finally a chance to test our bravery, the opportunity to reach out and step into the unknown, our rock wall becoming a metaphor for limit testing. Yes our rock wall has been opened up at last! In our classroom we have explored hand print painting, group collage, self portrait drawing and rainbow dabbing art! We have had a few dance parties, and we have created indoor and outdoor obstacle courses […]

Message from our Executive Board Thank you all for a super successful enrolment in February. Was great to see many of you there. General Meeting on Tuesday March 3rd at 7pm. Looking forward to a great speaker and some updates about our school. Spring break is March 16 through 27. Classes start back up on Monday March 30th.  NinaOn behalf of the Executive  Message from our Teachers This month was all about love and kindness. We celebrated Valentine’s Day, Family Day, and Pink Shirt Day to think about our friends and family. “Kindness begins with me” is our chant this month! Even though we had a surprise snow day early this month, we feel like spring is getting closer! We can hear birds singing and beautiful sunshine makes us feel warmer these days! We cannot wait to spend more time outside as the weather gets better and warm in spring!! Here’s what we’ve done this month… 3’s Class Ice cream making day was very fun to start this month! Teachers were very happy to have many little chefs at the table to mix the ingredients together! Measuring and counting is a great way to get familiar with numbers and math skill. Of course, […]

The last few have proven to be so much fun and a great way to get to know some of the families in your child’s class. Hope to see many of you in the coming weeks. NinaOn behalf of the Executive  Message from our Teachers The month of January has simply flown by. Everyone returned from winter break refreshed and relaxed. The snowfall created a wonderful play opportunity outside in our yard where we had snow ball fights and made snow angels. It was also a great deal of fun to get out on the hill. Some of us had a chance to observe what happens to snow when it comes inside. The Snowy Day written by Ezra Jack Keats is the perfect classic children’s story to read during Winter. Other books […]

Happy December! It’s been a wonderful first few months at QPP! With the holidays upon us I thought I’d share some of my favourite healthy treats after important messages from our executive and teachers! Message from our Executive Board Happy holidays everyone! December is such an exciting time with little ones in the home. A reminder to all that last day of classes for 3’s is December 19th and last day of classes for 4’s is December 20th for a one hour potluck.  We want to extend a big thank you to the City of New Westminster for awarding us a grant this year. We were able to upgrade our outside space with the addition of new mulch and a safe bridge, as well as several gross motor toys inside. Thank you!  Message from our Teachers 3’s Class In our 3’s classes after a beautiful show-and-tell of two perfect seahorses we continued following our interest in ocean animals and various ways of exploring, including water-colour painting of sea horses and crayon-rubbing art using ocean-life stencils. This led to the felt story ‘Slippery Fish’ and many renditions of the song ‘Baby Beluga’. Our applesauce making day was a sticky fun mess that […]

Hello QPP families! This month of remembrance tends to bring our attention to things we are grateful for, and I think it’s safe to say all of us would place family high up on that list. How many times have we be given the advice to slow down and embrace this magical time of childhood because of how fast it goes? Nice and well-meaning, but sometimes not so helpful when we’re in the thick of it. The struggle is real for many of us who have very busy work, school and extra-curricular schedules to take a moment to pause. But if you can find time in your day, even just a few times a week, to sit down with your children and share a meal, for an example, it will have many benefits for you and your children. More on this, as well as tips and recipes after important messages from our executive and teachers, as well as information on an upcoming Epicure fundraiser. Message from our Executive Board Happy November! This month we are looking forward to seeing all of you at our Annual General Meeting on a November 5th at 7pm. Bring your cash for raffle and beer […]

Hello QPP families! Happy fall! I love this time of year. The falling leaves, the crispness in the air, a new harvest of pumpkins, squashes and apples, and dishes like warm soups and stews with crusty bread. There’s something so cozy about a warm hearty meal that sticks to your ribs on a cool day…and if we’re dreaming here, pumpkin pie is always my autumnal dessert. And while I’m dreaming of the culinary treasures of the season, my kids are dreaming about an entirely different culinary experience! You guessed it, Halloween! Halloween is so much fun for our kids – carving pumpkins, dressing up and trick-or-treating. I love watching the joy on their faces. It is truly a magical time of childhood. But ghosts and goblins aside, some of us struggle with the pillowcases of candy and the sugar overload after the trick-or-treating has come to an end for another year. Is there a way to preserve the joy of the season while teaching self-regulation and control? More on that, as well as my favourite pumpkin pie recipe after an important message from our teachers and executive! Message from our Executive Board What a fun first month at preschool! Big […]

Hello Queens Park Preschool Families! I thought I would send out the first newsletter and introduce myself as we soak up the last bit of summer and prepare for September and the start of a new school year. Whether you are a returning family or new to the preschool, welcome! My name is Angie and I will be the newsletter editor this year. We are a returning family with our son Ioan (pronounced ‘Yo-ahn’) going into the 3 AM class. I am currently home with my three kids, but another hat that I used to wear was in the medical field. I have a special interest in nutrition, so aside from passing on important messages from our teachers and executive, I will also contribute with pieces on nutrition and recipes, along with other articles that may be of interest to parents with young families. Currently however, I am an expert in toddler-ease (not to be confused with an expert in parenting) and diffusing situations such as fist fights between a 6-year-old and a 3-year-old over who has the bigger slice of cake despite using my fail-proof-cake-measuring-tape to cut exact share replicas. Sometimes I win, sometimes I don’t. But if parenting […]
