    From the President Happy May! Finally feels like Spring is here. It’s hard to believe we only have six weeks of school left this year. Sending a big thanks to Karyn Audet for organizing the social at the Burnaby train park on April 22. It was a fun and sunny afternoon. Stay tuned for news on a year-end BBQ! I am happy to report that the school calendar is now on the QPPS website and we have moved a number of documents to a parent portal. You should have received a password from your class rep. If you haven’t, please ask for it. We still have space in our classes for the 2018/19 school year, so spread the word. Please grab postcards and posters and leave a review on our Facebook page. As always, thanks to our incredible teaching staff for all their hard work. I am excited about the art show this month, hope to see you all there. Enjoy the sunny days ahead!     From the President Welcome March! Spring is just around the corner and the kids have had a great February. Valentine’s Day and the gallery visit were highlights for my kids. Enrollment is well underway now with our classes filling for the 2018/19 school year. We still have space in some of our classes, so spread the word! If you haven’t had the chance to complete the preschool survey, please do by clicking here.  Your feedback is highly valued. Have a restful March and enjoy Spring Break – March 19-23. Got a Talent for Budgets? The budget committee is established on an annual basis to participate in the review and preparation of the budget for the following year (this includes setting the tuition fees for the upcoming year). The committee includes the Treasurer, President, Vice-President, the teachers, and at least two volunteers from the general membership who will be returning members.   At the March GM, we will be asking for volunteers from the membership to join the budget committee.     From the President I can’t believe we are already looking ahead to September and the new school year.  We have just had our first open house and will be starting enrollment for 2018/19 school year early this month.  Huge thanks to Katie Orford for all her help and a big welcome to Sylvia Steigervald who is taking over helping our families get set for the new year. After enrollment begins orientation and then our Orientation Coordinator steps in.  Many thanks to Rolande Barbon for her work last year and welcome to Glen Murray who has taken over for her. Another round of thanks to James Stenabaugh who has been working very hard on the new website.  It looks amazing and is no easy task to undertake.  So THANK YOU! This preschool would be what it is without the parents (and your “voluntold” jobs) and dedicated teaching staff – thank you.  We still have lots of fun ahead with the auction around the corner.  I hope you had fun sourcing your item and have booked your sitter for March 3.  It is always a great night out!       From the President It’s the end of another year at QPPS and I am honoured to have had a chance to help guide our preschool on behalf of all of you. I have made so many friends along the way and it has been wonderful to get to know all of the families this year. I don’t want to get too sappy on you – so for now it’s down to business 🙂 Executive Elections  Since our May GM, we have had several families accept nominations for the remaining roles on the executive committee.  Thank you to everyone who has stepped up and offered to help run the preschool next year! We are still looking for a family to take on the role of Orientation Elect.  This is a calendar year position, so requires a families who will be in the preschool for the next 2 years.  The orientation coordinator works with the Enrollment Coordinator, welcoming new and returning families back to the preschool.  The person in this role helps ensure our families are trained and ready to be duty parents in the classroom.  While there is some preparation and training before and after, the majority of the work […]

    From the President Welcome Spring!  I’m so pleased to see the flowers blossoming, the sun shining, and smiles all around. Once again I get to start off this month with some “sunshine and roses”.  First and foremost, a very warm welcome to Teacher Lynda (read a little further on for more about her!).  We are so pleased to have Lynda join the 3s and look forward to getting to know her more over the coming months. And welcome to all our new and returning families joining in September! We’ll see you soon at the Coffee Party in April. A few thank you’s as well – firstly to Artisan Landscaping for donating sand for our outdoor sandbox and to all the parents who arrived in the rain to move the sand!  Next to Kelly, from the 3-year old afternoon class, for offering to take over as Class Rep for the remainder of the year.  We will sorely miss Tasha and her family as they begin their new adventure elsewhere.     From the President A few THANK YOU’S to get us started this month Enrolment Team A HUGE thank you to our amazing enrolment team of Donald and Natalie!  Not only is the preschool full for next September, the process was smooth and easy for all involved.  Donald and Natalie have been making changes to the process and further streamlining the paperwork involved – with wonderful results.  If you see them in your classes, please be sure to say thanks.  Word of mouth is best advertisement, so thanks to everyone who raves about us to their friends and neighbours. Document Review An equally HUGE thank you goes out to Jeff, our VP, for tackling the document review.  This involved the always exciting job of reviewing the preschool’s constitution, bylaws, handbook, polices and procedures.  As you can imagine, upwards of 60 pages gave him many evenings of inspired reading!  This review is to be done every 2-3 years, and the preschool was several years behind, so we thank Jeff very much for bringing us back up to date.  And thank you to those other families who assisted with proof reading and providing feedback… it is very much appreciated.     From the President Here are a few quick tidbits to start off your December 🙂 Queen’s Park Preschool Turns 50 The planning is well on the way and we need your help! As part of the carnival, we’d like to have a music stage showcasing some of the preschool’s talent. Dance, music, singing… you name it, we want to hear about it. If you know someone – kids or adults – who might like to join our music stage, please let us know. We’re also searching for preschool memorabilia… class photos, artwork, report cards (yes, there used to be report cards!)… all those things parents save, we would love to see. As part of the celebration, we’re planning a visual timeline showcasing the preschool over the decades. We would love to see memorabilia from any decade, but we have a special interest in the 1960’s and 1970’s. New Westminster Family Place Once again this year, Queen’s Park Preschool will be collecting books and other items for New Westminster Family Place. New Westminster Family Place is a non-profit family resource program for families with children from newborns to five years of age. For the last several years our preschool has offered […]

    From the President Tell us what you think! Please take a couple of minutes to complete our General Preschool Survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VSPBX2J. Over the past few months, the preschool has been redesigning our feedback processes.  Our goal is to have surveys that be used annually with minimal changes needed, results that can be tracked over time, and higher response rates from members.  We are trying to amalgamate the current survey questions into two categories: information about the preschool’s operations (such as enrollment, orientation, jobs, administration, etc.) and classroom programming (such as communication with teachers, classroom activities, etc.).  Moving forward, hopefully we will have two surveys annually which will provide a baseline of information for the preschool’s executive to base decisions on.   Thank to Tara for all her help is reworking our surveys.  Let’s not make her efforts be in vain – please click the link above and tell us your thoughts!     From the President I am so happy to be the bearer of exciting news… our 3 and 4 year old classes beginning next September are now full!  I’ve already thanked so many people… and I’d like to echo that again here. There have been so many people involved with this amazing success – please know that we are so thankful for your efforts! And for more welcome news… perhaps the most anticipated purchase of the year has now arrived… our new vacuum! If you are reading this and wondering why on earth this matters so much, then most likely you have never used the 2 vacuums currently in use 🙂 The new vacuum is an industrial canister model, easy to use, and will vacuum up virtually anything (but please don’t put this to the test!). It is fairly user friendly, however if you’re unsure, please do not hesitate to ask for help if needed.Also new to the preschool is our amazing new sandbox lid. Again, it may seem like an everyday item, but just picture a folding wooden cover, on a pulley system, with a hand crank. Our kids (and many parents and grandparents) have been highly entertained!     Registration Update It’s almost summer time! Families will be frolicking at the beach, vacationing in the sunshine and building memories with their preschoolers. But wait – we still have some spaces available in the 3s and 4s classes that need filling. Work your magic QPPS parents – let’s get these spaces full before everyone disappears over the summer. Tweet it out, post it on Facebook, spread the word, chat with friends and family. Direct anyone you know that might be interested in attending to call the preschool (604-526-1153) or the enrollment coordinators at Enrollment@QPPS.CA. Sapperton Days Festival Queen’s Park Preschool will have a booth at the Sapperton Days Festival on June 9 to help promote our preschool. We will have face painters, bubbles and playdoh. There is a volunteer sheet circulating with a list of time slots where your family could help out.
