    Welcome our Practicum Student Ling! Ling was born in Taiwan, and moved to North America when she was 20 years old. She lived in Florida for over 5 years. During that time she completed her Bachelor degree in Fine Arts, got married, and started her own family. She and her family moved and settled in Vancouver since 1997. Ling has been working as an ECE for over 10 years, and has had many wonderful experience with children aged from 0-6 in different group settings. Ling was a stayed at home mom for over 10 years. She was involved with her children’s learning, and volunteered both in and out school activities, such as teacher’s helper, PAC member and involved with school council planning, and one of the Cub Scout Leader from Scout Canada. She loves to learn with children through their play, curiosity, and creativity every day. She is grateful to be able to have this opportunity to walk along aside with each child for a short period of time in their life and share countless great moments with their family with trace of their children’s growth in every developmental areas.     Welcome to all new and returning Queen’s Park Preschool families! The beginning of the school year is always full of such excitement and adjustments. For some of you, the transition to school has been as bumpy as daylight savings to bedtime. For others, your kids have been ready for preschool since they could walk or somewhere in between. I hope you are settling into a new routine with your little ones after our first month back. A huge thank you goes to our teachers, Ms. Donna, Ms. Lyn, and Ms. Queenie and our support staff, Ms. Roop and Ms. Amber, for a successful launch to the school year with our beautiful new indoor and outdoor spaces. I would also like to thank all our families on watering duty over the summer for keeping our play yard thriving and beautiful, and also to James and Adam for the awesome new teacher/duty parent cubbies and fresh paint. Be it cleaning the school or organizing a fundraiser, designing a website or crunching numbers, this school wouldn’t be the amazing place that it is without you.     From the President Welcome, June! Wow! Where has the year gone? We are ending the year with a bang with an exciting past month full of yard upgrades, the beautifully done art show at the New Westminster Art Gallery and our first year being involved with the Hyack Festival. With only a couple of weeks of school left, we have lots to be proud of and huge thanks to our community of parents, members, extended family, teachers and staff for all they have contributed over the school year. It has been an absolute pleasure playing a role in the operations of the school and I couldn’t have done it without the amazing group of fellow Executives. A special shout-out to Marti Longstaff, VP, and Monica Hoover, Treasurer for their countless hours. I am thrilled about the fresh group of people coming into the Executive and look forward to hearing about the preschool’s continued success.     From the President Welcome March! Spring is just around the corner and the kids have had a great February. Valentine’s Day and the gallery visit were highlights for my kids. Enrollment is well underway now with our classes filling for the 2018/19 school year. We still have space in some of our classes, so spread the word! If you haven’t had the chance to complete the preschool survey, please do by clicking here.  Your feedback is highly valued. Have a restful March and enjoy Spring Break – March 19-23. Got a Talent for Budgets? The budget committee is established on an annual basis to participate in the review and preparation of the budget for the following year (this includes setting the tuition fees for the upcoming year). The committee includes the Treasurer, President, Vice-President, the teachers, and at least two volunteers from the general membership who will be returning members.   At the March GM, we will be asking for volunteers from the membership to join the budget committee.     From the President Happy New Year! Hope you all had a fantastic holiday season with lots of family time, good eats and eggnog. We are looking forward to a great 2018 at QPPS. Lots on the go and we’ll see you at the GM on January 9. Best, Amber   Fundraising Update For new fundraising in January, there will be another meat pie order  – perfect for the winter months ahead. Also, be sure to bring your cash/cheques to the GM the monthly raffle. And of course we’ll be collecting big brothers donations!   Parent Education This Month JANUARY Nicola Lott from Notch Hill Learning will do a presentation entitled “Play With Purpose – Building Reading Readiness Skills” Would you like your child to choose books over technology? In this workshop we look at the foundation skills preschoolers need to master before blooming into readers.     From the President Happy December! Hope you all had a great (although wet!) November. Things are ticking along at QPPS with lots of small projects on the go from grant applications to new dishwashers, websites to alumni list building. Many thanks to all the families for their ongoing work to keep the school running. And to our staff for continuing to amaze and thrill our children each and every week.     From the President Happy November! I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving celebrations and had some Halloween fun. Thanksgiving is also a great reminder to say “thank you” a little more often – so it might just be the theme of my message this month 😉 October was a great month at the preschool as we had Ms. Queenie join our school. We are still searching for one more Support Worker, so if you know someone who would be the perfect fit, please let your executive know.   Huge thanks to Marti Longstaff, Vice-President for stepping into the role of substitute teacher this month. Both her and Jana Royal did a great job in the class supporting Ms. Donna.   I’d also like to thank those on the fundraising committee for their hard work. Thanks to Sarah Johnston of Notting Hill Photography for the family photo shoot and braving those long days outside. Thank you, Leah Yallop for organizing the pub night.     From the President We’re less than 1 month away from our 50th anniversary celebration!  We’re so excited to welcome our current and past families for an afternoon of family fun.  Join us May 14, from 12:00 noon – 3:00pm for music, games, princesses, and more! We’re looking for volunteers for the day.  If you know of older kids, teens, grandparents… anyone who might like to help out for the afternoon – we’d love to hear about it!  Help is needed between 11:00am – 5:00pm on May 14th. Duties include: help with setting up, assisting with games and the BBQ.  For older kids who need volunteer hours for school, we can provide a letter to document their volunteer hours. Also, if you haven’t yet noticed the big, white box on the counter… the chicks are coming! During the first week of May there will be baby chicks hatching at the preschool! So exciting. The chicks will be with us until May 10.     From the President Welcome Spring!  I’m so pleased to see the flowers blossoming, the sun shining, and smiles all around. Once again I get to start off this month with some “sunshine and roses”.  First and foremost, a very warm welcome to Teacher Lynda (read a little further on for more about her!).  We are so pleased to have Lynda join the 3s and look forward to getting to know her more over the coming months. And welcome to all our new and returning families joining in September! We’ll see you soon at the Coffee Party in April. A few thank you’s as well – firstly to Artisan Landscaping for donating sand for our outdoor sandbox and to all the parents who arrived in the rain to move the sand!  Next to Kelly, from the 3-year old afternoon class, for offering to take over as Class Rep for the remainder of the year.  We will sorely miss Tasha and her family as they begin their new adventure elsewhere.     From Our President Farewell Teacher Jenny As most families will have read already, it is with great sadness we  announce the resignation of Teacher Jenny. Jenny has accepted a position as a Strong Start Facilitator with Stride Elementary. Working with the Strong Start program has been a long term goal of Jenny’s for some time and while we are devastated she is leaving the preschool, we are very happy for her as well.   We will keep everyone informed of our recruitment process, and if you do have any questions or concerns, please feel free to directly contact any member of the executive committee. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this transitional period.
