Fundraising Update A big thanks is in order to all the families who supported the Win Win ticket sales. The Queens Park Preschool sold all of our 40 booklets – which resulted in a profit of $320 – yay parents! Here is a little update on the up and coming: 1.  Clothing bags – we are doing very well with this fundraiser and will continue to collect clothing bags on the first Monday (drop off at the preschool) and Tuesday for delivery Wednesday morning. Please feel free to bring bags to the general meeting – it’s a great time to clear out the old and make room for all the new winter items received over the holidays. 2.  Shopping Cards – this monthly fundraiser has been very successful and we are looking forward to continuing. Some families have given a standing order (same order each month – re: groceries, gas, clothing stores) with post dated cheques for  the first Tuesday of each month. If this is something you feel would be helpful for you, please let Kathleen know and it can be arranged. Just a reminder regarding dates – all orders are to be in on the first Tuesday of […]

Give Love on Christmas Day – Community Support Dear Parents, It’s hard to believe, but our holiday season is quickly approaching us. For many years our preschool has worked with two community groups, New Westminster Family Place and Fraserside Community Services, to offer some extra support to New Westminster families in need, during the holiday season. (In the past we have donated books, apple juice, toilet paper, and Food/Toy Hampers). We have contacted both of these societies to find out what their needs are for this year. Family Place would again appreciate a donation of books… and the preschool has already ordered these books with free coupons through our Scholastic book program. They would also appreciate donations of gift cards that they will use towards: Purchasing simple snack supplies/bathroom supplies for the programs that they offer Purchasing age-appropriate small toys (that will be given as gifts) and food for the Family Place Christmas Party that is offered to families that attend their programs Gift-cards that can be given to families in need, to purchase their own family groceries If you wish to donate a gift card, Family Place suggests that the following stores would be the most useful: Safeway, Save-On-Foods […]

November Parent Education There will be no GM in November. You have the choice of four different options to fulfill your parent education requirements for the month of November: 1) Christopher Burt (seminar) – FAMILY SYSTEMS Topic: “The Family System” Location:  Marlborough Elementary, 6060 Marlborough Ave., parking lot off Dover Street Date: Thursday 15th November, 2012, 7pm-9pm Cost: Please note – There is a block of tickets for QPP members only. Let them know you are from QPP and you can go in. If you bring a non-QPP member, they must pay for their ticket. Open to the Public – $10.00 at the door. The Family System Seminar The Family System seminar explores not only what to expect from your preschooler, but also looks at tension in the parenting couple and extended family as a result of role changes, the emergence of sibling rivalry, and how (and why) parents inadvertently begin to actually ignore wanted behaviour in their children. When looking at the developmental stage of preschoolers parents often ignore their own developmental stages – both as an individual parent and as a family – and there are many ‘typical’ challenges to this stage of family development. www.christopherburt.net 2) Barry MacDonald (seminar)- […]

I hope your Queens Park Preschool (QPP) experience is good so far. Students and parents in the four year old classes have settled back in. The three year old’s have completed their gradual entry and are now attending full-time two days a week. And a little feedback from my son – he loves his teachers, the sandbox and the water-tube-plaything.
